About Artworks

Inspired by events and situations in daily life, Huang captures the amusing and awkward moments and focuses on all kinds of intriguing plots or the theatrical atmosphere. Through paintings and drawings, she employs humorous, entertaining composition and direct and unpretentious lines to portray the life of a spectrum of ordinary people in this world and expose the subtle and neurotic absurdities within contemporary interpersonal relationships, politics, society, and family. Her work is not only a form of satire to reality but also a powerful counter to modern people’s worry, fear, and detachment. The anxiety conveyed in her images sometimes evokes a contrasting sense of helpless joy. This arises from the feeling that nothing more can be done. Other times, it reveals a festival-like, collective escape that is accurate without being aggressive. Her black humor originates from a child-like innocence, allowing viewers to gaze at reality through a fun mirror. This mirror still reflects the world's cruelty, but in a more palatable way.

As part of a generation marked by hedonism, people seem to know more but feel less. Catastrophes become mere assumptions, and people even practice suffering and crisis with laughter. Huang seeks to highlight the lives of this easy and comfortable generation, particularly their lightness of being. Simultaneously, she aims to show audiences the beauty and uncanniness of individual moments, the inherent humor and tragedy within us, and both the grandeur and frailty of humanity.
